I was very happy to see that the likes of John Cage and Duchamp got to taste a bit of digital media in their time. That got me thinking to the concept of what it would like of other great artist had access to Photoshop, Art Rage and Illustrator. Or even if they had contact with video and the internet. Matisse, Picasso and Leonardo, easel and canvas replaced with screen and a Wacom.

The copy and paste ease of computers lends itself to the school of Dada and surrealism. No anyone can create a collage of absurdity or faceted emotion with the quick click of the mouse.

As we dwell deeper into the world of science with the aid of technology, the concept of art gets stretched in another direction. Electron images, fractal maps and visual soundwaves have all become new experiences into a fledgling media.

I really like the idea of coping and pasting with the computer. it is a good point to talk about. I like the way Preacher stated it " anyone can create a collage of absurdity or faceted emotion with the quick click of the mouse." i agree with how they stated this.

I have always had the same curiousity as Preacher. I have always wondered what if some of the most famous artists would have had the same technology we have at their disposal?
I would like to see one of Picasso's collages via photoshop. And Monet paint with ArtRage.
I also thought of surrealism and Salvador Dali's paintings, and how simple they would be to mimic with some of the programs we have today.
They mention Hyper Realism. Does it count as realism? Because it's pretty obvious that images that are used most likely are REAL photographs of people/things. So, it's kind of a given that these images will be realistic.

Just some thoughts.

"All art is experimental, or it isn't art." This is a very unique perspective on what qualifies as art, and despite the fact that it is a throwaway quote in the introduction, it makes you think. I kept that quote in mind as I read the rest of the reading, and it made me look at everything in a different way.

I think digital media and all the different programs we have access to are great. It makes it very easy to create or recreate works of art. At the same time it is almost too easy. It makes me appreciate artists from history who were innovators of their time. They created such beautiful peices with nothing but their minds and some paints. Today a 10 year old kid can create some pretty impresive art with the help of these programs. Its cool, but it also takes away from the credibility a bit as well. I know many artists still paint traditionally but digital media is the future and I guess I better get used to it.

I enjoyed reading this. I have never really thought about the transition from traditional to digital art. It is amazing to me how many traditional art forms can now be created in a digital form that is almost indistinguishable from the original form. Artrage is a good example of this. With art you can mimic many different types of drawing/painting in a digital way. I was also intrigued by the idea of art being based in something mathematical that a computer can understand better then a person. If you were to draw a sin function as a human you are bound to make mistakes. A computer can draw a pretty much perfect graphical representation. These type of art I find very appealing and aesthetically pleasing. While I might not understand the equations that produce these works when you look at them you can see something greater then the picture. The hidden numbers in image. This is an area of art that would not be possible without the digitization of art forms.

It's interesting to think about how things would be different in digital media if we did not have the kinds of technology and programs we have today. It's fascinating to think about how much more time was spent on projects similar to what we are doing today; or how much more technology we would have today if these programs were available in the past.

The introducation seemed to go on and on about this male did this and that male did that. By just reading it was hard for me to pick out a female in the history of digital art. I liked that it explained the evolution of a computer in non cimputer codes. It was interesting to find out that the term changes like most other terms depening on the era or group of peope.

The first chapter used the theme of manipulation it seemed every three pages. It changed the code word by not always using the exact word maipulation it also used propaganda.

For me it was distacting to have b dates for some artists and then immediaty dates of piece was made. It also was distarting that not all artists were given dates. It also would be easier to have a dateline maybe running along the bottom of the page or down the left side of each page. To put the time difference in focus. 10724688 I did not like the fact that the pages were all oriented to the right. I am used to books either oriented center, to the outside or inside of the book. It was different. I read the second edition. It was conisitence that the boook contuined the format on the backcover.

I find it interesting that we can manipulate almost any type of artwork through digital media and the technology that we have today. I feel that anyone can express their own way of art by combining old school techniques with the new school technology to create something that we have not even seen before. Art pieces from back in the day and digital media has always inspired me to think and create something new, where I think of new ideas to express my own pieces of art. THANK GOODNESS FOR TECHNOLOGY!!!'

I think the level of easiness in digital art is almost similar in many other art forms. I don't think that digital art necessarily make art into something that's easy. We can say that it is really easy to create a bunch of art pieces through digital media, while a some consider a colorful scribble that is made by a 5 years old is a piece of art.
